What you don't know about social media can hurt you.

Every day social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Linkdin and many others are gaining in popularity. Its not just a fad anymore.

As a parent and an individual I am always amazed at the stories I read about how social media is changing our every day lives. I just read this article online about how facebook tops in online evidence.
It goes to show that like all things in life we need to exercise common sense and learn how every social media decision can affect our lives. Please take a minute to do a reality check on your social media pages. Even ones that you haven't visited for a long time. Look at them from the eyes of a perspective or current employer, your children, or any other viewpoint but your own.

Don't forget your manners. Even on Social Media web sites good manners are required.

Here is a great rule of thumb. If you don't want it to be out there then don't put it out there. There are ways around your privacy settings and technology is always faster than we think.

Put your best foot forward. The party is over for a lot of people on social media web sites. Its not the best place to let it all hang out. The rules of engagement about social media are still being written. Do you want to be the one the newest rule gets written about? Think. Guide your kids. Take a look at their social media pages and while you are at it take a look at whose social media page are you being displayed on.

Use your common sense and you will have a worry free social media experience.
